PRESS RELEASE ON THE VISIT OF HIS EXCELLENCY TO THE TEMPORARY DETENTION CENTRE FOR FOREIGN CITIZENS IN MOSCOW, RUSSIA
H.E. Professor Abdullahi SHEHU, accompanied by Embassy officials and representatives of the Nigerian Community visited Nigerians awaiting deportation at the Temporary Detention Centre for Foreign Citizens in Moscow. Ambassador SHEHU was received by the Head of the Department for Documentation and Foreign Citizens, Ministry of Internal Affairs Mr. Vladimir Bychkovskiy. The visit was to ascertain the welfare of Nigerians who are awaiting deportation in the Detention Camp as well as strengthen cooperation with the Centre.
His Excellency expressed profound appreciation to his host for the warm reception and reiterated that many Nigerians in Russia are law abiding. He also sought for the strengthening of cooperation and free flow of information between the Centre and the Embassy to help deal with common issues.
Mr. V.Bychkovskiy welcomed His Excellency and noticed that he is the first Ambassador to visit the facility. After official meeting they met the Nigerians in their holding room and listened to their complaints, which were promptly reported to the authorities. The Ambassador offered the inmates gift items, including groceries, toiletries and edibles.
