On 29th June, 2022, Ambassador Abdullahi Shehu was received at the Sergo Ordzhonikidze Russian State University for Geological Prospecting by Mr. Yuri P. Panov, Ag. Rector of the Institution and other members of the University’s Management team. The Ambassador was accompanied to the meeting by Mrs. J.O. Olaye and Mr. E.U. Nwosa of the Consular and Education Section of the Embassy.
The aim of the meeting was to identify and explore avenues of cooperation in Science, Research and Education between the University, Nigerian tertiary institutions and research centres.
Mr. Panov gave a brief presentation on the Institution which is the oldest and one of the most prestigious in the field of geological prospecting. He informed that the University is home to a lot of foreigners which account for 40% of enrolment and is open to having more Nigerian students study there.
Amb. Abdullahi Shehu noted that Nigeria is the second highest Mineral producing country in Africa and still has untapped opportunities in that sector. He also made reference to Nigerian Institutions that are competent in the area of mining and geological exploration. Additionally, he expressed optimism for a prospective collaboration between the Education and Research Institutions of both Nations which he underscored, would be for the mutual benefit of both parties.
